Wishing You a Quiet Winter Week

The holiday season is in full swing, the days are short, the nights are cold, and the land is resting. But here at Bear Meadows, winter is anything but quiet.

While the fields may look still, our spring flowers are already well underway, not in the soil, but mapped out on paper, tracked in spreadsheets, and seedsto be ordered. This time of year is all about planning. Every bloom you’ll hold in spring depends on careful timing during the winter months.

I’m sharing a photo this week of our seed-starting spreadsheet, not the prettiest thing to look at, but one of the most important tools we use.  Here in Virginia, spring is fleeting. It arrives quickly and often gives way just as fast to early summer heat. Miss the timing, and the season slips right past.

So while the world outside is wrapped in evergreen and frost, we’re counting weeks, watching daylight, and preparing for that brief, beautiful stretch when spring flowers truly shine. This quiet winter work is what makes those first bouquets of the season possible.

As a small reminder, spring bouquet subscriptions and gift certificates are still available for gift giving, with gift certificates starting at $20. They make a thoughtful way to share a bit of spring, even in the heart of winter.

With gratitude and muddy boots,
Kaz Smith
